Size: 3.8 cm

Distribution: All SA coastal and gulf waters

Habitat: Under rocks or amongst algae and seagrass

Depth: Subtidal to 10+ metres

This snail is rarely encountered despite being one of the largest in its genus. It has a reddish-orange shell with darker spots or dashes arranged in a spiral. Its whorls are straight and it is relatively squat, with a short spire. Like many clanculus species, it has fine granulated ribs. It is difficult to distinguish from its relatives, but its large size, colour and pattern are nonetheless quite distinctive.
