This seagrass consists of relatively short leaves attached to a branching stem, and can form large meadows, with the stems connected by buried rhizomes. It is similar to Amphibolis antarctica, and both have short strap-like leaves that terminate in two points. However, while A. antarctica has twisted leaves terminating in sharp points, A. griffithii has straight leaves that end in rounded points.
