Distribution: All SA coastal and gulf waters east of Port Lincoln

Depth: Upper to mid intertidal
This shore crab is found in muddy environments, where it lives in burrows or under rocks during the day, emerging to feed at night. It is orange to brown in colour, with colouration being affected by the quality of their environment. In less polluted areas, this species appears more orange. The claws are often lighter than the rest of the animal. They can be distinguished from other shore crabs by their habitat, along with the distinctive notch behind the eye.
