Size: 5 cm

Distribution: All SA coastal and gulf waters

Habitat: Sand flats

Depth: Lower intertidal and shallow subtidal

This large predatory snail is found in sand at low tide, where it hunts for buried bivalves and other snails. This species has a smooth conical shell that is usually white or light pinkish grey, often with darker brown bands. It produces free floating egg masses, often seen washed up in the hundreds, which are transparent and sausage shaped. These are usually encountered more frequently than the animal itself. This snail has a similar colour and texture to many others in its family, but is distinguished by its much higher spire.
