Depth: Subtidal to 10+ metres

A highly variable snail, this species is usually a brown or tan colour, with distinctly convex whorls interrupted by axial folds. The spiral ribs are beaded, particularly towards the base, and there is a very short anterior siphonal canal. It can resemble spindle snails (family Fasciolariidae), but can be distinguished by the spiral beads and the short anterior canal.
