Habitat: Seagrass beds or low-relief reefs, amongst algae
Depth: Subtidal to 10+ metres
A smallish brown weedfish, Heteroclinus adelaidae is shy and often found hiding amongst algae. Although it can vary in colour and pattern, this species often has a white streak running from behind its eye to the pectoral fin base. Difficult to distinguish from other clinids (weedfishes), particularly Heteroclinus kuitieri, its tall first dorsal fin starts further back - behind the gill cover, while it also has obvious nasal tentacles, which H. kuitieri lacks.
