Distribution: SA coastal and gulf waters west of Victor Harbor
Habitat: Rocky areas and reef
Depth: Lower intertidal to 10+ metres
This brown algae grows on rocky reef and can be quite large, to 60 cm in length. The base of the plant is covered in large, rigid, winglike and downward-pointing lateral stubs and it has a flat branching pattern. These features help to distinguish it from other Cystophora species, although identification can be difficult.
