Habitat: Rocky coastline and artificial structures
Depth: Coastal and subtidal to 10+ metres
This seal is the most common species occuring in coastal metro waters. It has a robust build, with short but shaggy grey to brown fur. It has a short snout, which is still generally longer than others in its genus, and relatively large ears. It can be confused with the Australian Sea Lion (Neophoca cinerea), but that species is usually lighter in colour, with a longer snout, shorter ears and smoother fur.
