This undescribed species of sea urchin is usually found amongst algae and seagrasses in shallow water. Like other temnopleurid urchins, it has short, blunt spines arranged in longitudinal bands, and is almost spherical in shape. Its spines are a darkish red and it has brown tube feet. This distinguishes it from the almost identical Holopneustes porosissimus, whose spines are a brighter red and has paler tube feet.
