This hydroid forms dense colonies on rock walls, jetty pylons and other man-made structures. The colonies consist of a tangled mass of long, pale and translucent hydrocauli, each with a pink-centred hydranth at the end. This species is native to the North American Atlantic coast and can be recognised by its growth pattern and appearance. Few similar species in SA produce colonies as large or dense.
