Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae - Silver Gull
Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae - Silver Gull

The silver gull is ubiquitous on Australia's coasts and should be recognisable to most. It is white, with silver wings, a black tail, and a red beak and legs. Juveniles differ by having some brown in their wings, and a darker beak and legs. It can be confused with the Pacific Gull (Larus pacificus), which is significantly larger, with a red-tipped yellow beak, and yellow feet.
