This relatively large coastal amphipod is found under rocks, often in large numbers, and is very active. it is white in colour, often with a greenish tinge, with pink to red broken bands on its body, legs and antennae. This species is easy to recognise for the most part, although it is easily confused with Ceradocus serratus, which it looks almost identical to. It can be distinguished from that species by the spines on its legs and antennae, which are shorter and less numerous than on C. serratus.
