The family Labridae includes the wrasses, weed whitings and parrotfishes. They are usually easy to recognise due to their thick lips, bright colours and their pectoral fins, which they use for swimming, resembling a bird flapping its wings. It is one of the most diverse fish families in South Australia, with more than 20 species found in SA waters. Most species are carnivorous and feed on invertebrates, while a few act as cleaner hosts.
